Children of Mary (Enfants de Marie) SodalityThe Children of Mary (Enfants de Marie) Sodality was founded in 1818 by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, the foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart.  The first groups were comprised of students known for their faith and spirituality at the academies.  In 1832, Sacred Heart alumnae who had been members of the Sodality received permissions from Saint Madeleine Sophie to continue the congregation into adulthood and carry the mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart into the world.  Engaged in works of service, spiritual exercises, and retreats, the Sodality allowed graduates of Sacred Heart schools, as well as other women and men with similar spirits, to continue their religious formation into adulthood.

In Grand Coteau, the first students were accepted into the newly established Enfants de Marie in 1838.  Today there are Sodality groups in several cities across the United States.
